Yonkers

Message From the City Council President Mike Khader

Happy day Yonkerites!
Hard to believe it’s already March!
We had some good news this week as our city begins its road to recovery from the COVID pandemic.
•  The opening of a new Target and H&M which will provide many new jobs for local residents.
• We’re on the verge of passing legislation that would limit the fees that companies like UberEats, GrubHub, and DoorDash can charge for delivery orders to only 10%. The vote for this will take place on March 9th. It’s imperative that we continue to protect the small businesses and restaurant owners that have been hit hard by the pandemic.
• Lastly, the city council is exploring bringing back the ferry service to the Hudson River. Our city is going through an economic boom and I want to see our raw natural resources fully utilized – without purchasing additional equipment. Ideally, the ferry could be part of waterfront development that drives more economic growth in a way that’s most impactful for local residents, businesses, and visitors. Additionally, making the west side of Manhattan accessible from Yonkers via mass transit would be a wonderful addition to our communities.
I hope you and yours are continuing to stay safe, wear a mask, and social distance. Have a wonderful weekend!
Onwards,
Mike Khader
