Joining the police force offers a rewarding career in serving and protecting our communities. There’s also a starting pay of $72k ($100k+ after 5 years) and opportunities for advancement and specialized training.

Priority is given to Yonkers residents (living in the city for at least three months prior to taking the exam). Applicants must not younger than 18 and not older than 34, with a high school diploma.
Applicants with [permanent] resident status may take the exam, but must file for naturalization immediately, as they must be U.S. citizens to be appointed as police officers.
The police department hires between 30 to 50 people every year. Since the calls are annual, permanent resident applicants have up to three years to obtain citizenship and be ready for possible hiring.
There’s a filing fee of $100 (check or money order only) must be included with application, but it can be waived if the applicant is unable to pay that amount due to financial hardship.
